Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (at the same time using the name of the "Shanghai International Arbitration Centre", formerly known as "China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission Shanghai Branch", with English abbreviation "SHIAC", hereinafter referred to as "Shanghai International Arbitration Center") is approved and established by the Shanghai Municipal people's government in 1988 and registered as a judicial independent arbitration institution, which plays an independent, fair, professional and efficient role for the parties to resolve commercial disputes by arbitration service.

After 30 years of development, the number of cases accepted by Shanghai International Arbitration Center is rising year by year. In addition to the traditional commercial disputes, the case shall also involve the new cases, such as private equity, Internet finance, leasing and financing, aviation services, energy and environmental rights and interests, etc. The parties involved in the case have covered more than 70 countries and regions all over the country and the world. The arbitral award has been recognized and implemented in nearly 50 countries and regions in accordance with the New York Convention.There are 965 arbitrators in the list of arbitrators of Shanghai International Arbitration Center, respectively from 74 countries and regions. Among them, there are 604 arbitrators in mainland China, accounting for 62.59%; 361 arbitrators from foreign countries, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, accounting for 37.41%.

Shanghai International Arbitration Center always adheres to the international development strategy. Since October 2013, Shanghai International Arbitration Center successively set up the Arbitration Institute of the China (Shanghai) Free Trade Area, the Arbitration Institute of the Shanghai International Aviation, Bric Countries Dispute Resolution Shanghai Center, Shanghai Arbitration Center joint by China and Africa.
