China has remained the main importer of Russian agricultural products for two consecutive years

The Russian Agricultural Products Export Center stated that according to preliminary statistics, Russia will export over 8.3 million tons of agricultural products to China in 2024, with a total export value of approximately 7.4 billion US dollars. According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, China will import approximately 8.8 million tons of agricultural products from Russia in 2023, with a total import value of 7.6 billion US dollars.
The largest export volume of agricultural products from Russia to China is rapeseed oil (13%), followed by barley (10%), sunflower seed oil and peas (8% each), and soybeans (7%). China has become the main importer of Russian agricultural products in 2024 and has maintained this position for two consecutive years.
In October 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui stated at the China Russia Agricultural Cooperation Forum that the trade volume of agricultural products between China and Russia will reach an unprecedented 11.4 billion US dollars in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 33%. Zhang Hanhui pointed out that Chinese agricultural enterprises are actively investing in Russian agriculture, with a total of 255 joint projects and an investment of over 11 billion US dollars. By 2024, the investment amount will reach 170 million US dollars. Russia and China mainly cooperate in the production of soybeans, corn, and other crops, greenhouse vegetable cultivation, and livestock and poultry farming.
