Suning compensates 16 thousand yuan for music copyright infringement

A store of retailing giant Suning in Wuxi City of Jiangsu Province has been ordered to compensate 16,000 yuan (2500 US dollars) because of music copyright infringement.

The plaintiff, Music Copyright Society of China, said they had reminded Suning many times that some music tracks played in the stores have violated copyright, but Suning ignored it and continued to avoid paying royalty.

Thus, the Society sued Suning in 2017 stating that Suning's infringement of authors' copyright goes against its brand image and impacted negatively on the campaign on raising copyright awareness.

At present, more than 20,000 stores, supermarkets, restaurants and hotels have received music copyright through the Music Copyright Society.
